A Life of Satisfaction
Once a fisherman was reclining
against the dock with a few fish in his bucket. A rich merchant was passing
over there and noticed him. He asked, “Why are you squandering your time in
rest? Go and trap some more fish.” The fisherman replied, “I have caught all I
need for today and I am smoking my pipe to enjoy the breeze.” The businessman
objected, “If you will use time in fishing, you could earn more money than
requirement.” The fisherman replied, “And then what.” “Well, then your saving
would allow you to buy a bigger boat so that you may go farther into the sea to
catch bigger fish to make even more money.” The businessman replied, “And then
what?” “Then you could buy a whole fleet of boats and catch a thousand of fish
and make a thousand of rupees in one day and become rich like me.” “And then
what?” asked the fisherman. “Then you could sit back and enjoy life like I do,”
the rich man said. “Well, isn't that what I am doing already,” said the
fisherman proudly.
